Personal Mission and Biography

Danielle M. Ward, CFRE, MBA
Founder and President

I am passionate about changing the world and helping nonprofit organizations change the world through their philanthropy programs.  Starting relationships with donors and then working to build those relationships are my passions.  Whether you have an established file or need to find new donors to help build your base, I can help.  I base fundraising recommendations and activities on measurable data.  Digging into your data and results to find the right people to talk to with the right messages at the right times in one of my favorite things to do.

With over 10 years of experience in fundraising and communication, I have specialized in fundraising at the base levels of the classic donor pyramid.  I take a holistic view of the fundraising program, from the donors' experience.  I firmly believe that "the ask" should not be viewed in isolation.  It is important to know, as much as possible, what made a donor give a gift to support your organization.  However, what happens after that gift can be, in my opinion, more important than that initial gift.  How you communicate with donors after the gift can make or break any donor/organization relationship, and the goal should be to build a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.  I want to help you take the relationships between your organizations and the donors who support you to the next level, and the next, and the next, as high and as long as the donor is willing and excited to be involved.

Building strong relationships with donors helps both your organization and the donor.  You benefit from ongoing support, which might build into a significant planned gift with proper stewardship and cultivation.  The donor gains the psychological benefits of choosing to make a difference in her world, and giving can also have favorable tax consequences, though that has been shown to be a less important motivation for giving.  They key is to find the donors who are willing to be a part of a long-term relationship.  I can help you do that.

So, why the 13 in DMW13 Consulting?  13 is my number!  It has always been a good number for me.  I was born on the 13th, and it's usually a good day for me each month.  I definitely do not suffer from triskaidekaphobia.
